Robert Kaufman Solids Charm Pack Challenge

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful comments and links on the Interlocking Seasons quilt block tutorial.  I am still in the process of replying to all of the comments and questions, and please let me know if you have any problems with the tutorial!  It was a labor of love and I hope everyone enjoys the pattern and makes lots of quilt blocks!  I must say that most of the credit for this belongs to Mister Parfait, he did an amazing job and I can’t believe I doubted his design in the beginning! (Okay, I’ll admit, I was still bitter over my design not working out, tehehe) I was able to see the first block made from the tutorial yesterday morning, it is beautiful!

The quilt above is for the Robert Kaufman Solids Charm Pack Challenge (using the Dusty Palette) for my local Modern Quilt Guild!  I wasn’t able to make it out to the meeting last month for the big reveal; I wish I could have been there to see everyone’s quilts!  We used almost every charm square to make the hexagons and the surrounding white fabric is also half and full hexagon shapes.  The hexagons are all machine pieced.  This would be considered a “mini” quilt; it is only about 25 inches square as a top!
EDIT: Tutorial is up!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a quilt!  Today is Dr. Seuss’s 107th Birthday!  We all enjoy his books so much, I’m glad this quilt represents that a bit!  I think Little Mister might enjoy the website more, though!  This is the finished Dr. Seuss quilt top for Little Mister, following along the Wonky Circle of Stars Quilt Along!  I’m in love with this quilt and might snatch it for myself!  The double borders still need to be added, maybe blue and red?

Cupcake Quilt Top for the Wonky Circle of Stars Quilt Along

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

The cupcake quilt top for the quilt along is finished!  And I think it is so, so cute!  I love how all the star point colors came together, and I *love* all the little cupcake/sweet centers!  I’m thinking of using a sprinkle print for the binding, and I picked up a nice pastel polka dot for the backing.  Now I just have to wonder what baby name to put on the label…hmmm!

Frosted Stars

Monday, January 24th, 2011

This quilt was finished just in the nick of time, literally.  I had started it a few weeks before Thanksgiving, hoping to have it in the hands of my parents a few days after Thanksgiving, and gleefully went along my way sewing. Well, things didn’t turn out that way!  This was a huge project, the first time ever making half square triangles, stars, and actually quilting a top.  I ran out of fabric, couldn’t find anymore (What is it with the Holiday lines for Moda that is soooo hard to find!) cut fabric in the wrong direction, took out stitches, and maybe shed a tear or two.  Thankfully I have an amazing Husband who stepped in to help right before I threw the quilt out the window in a seam ripping fury.  Then, finally, 2 days before Christmas Eve and 2 hours before the UPS store closed, it was finished, signed, and sent!  It arrived Christmas Eve and I was very happy to find out it was used that very night!

Lesson Learned:  Do not finish a quilt hours before the shipping store closes, two days before the busiest Holiday of the year.  And when looking at price quotes be sure to check expedited shipping, so you don’t show up at the shipping store thinking it’s going to be $30….when it’s really $90.
